The book was a completely different style. I have been introduced to Stand on Zanzibar as being one of the greatest science-fiction novels of all time, which is one difficult expectation to fulfill. Time after I find in the library Stand on Zanzibar and without even read what it was about I borrowed it. Last week I took some time to read Stand on Zanzibar, a 1969 science fiction novel by John Brunner, dealing with a dystopian future and issues of overpopulation. So when Geoff Ryman assigned Stand on Zanzibar to members of this year's SF Masterclass to read, I was apprehensive. In John Brunner's Stand on Zanzibar, one of the major protagonists of the story is a Muslim. All science-fiction authors dream of writing a book that accurately portrays the future. I read this book back in 1970, a couple of years after it had been published. Can't say it's stuck with me like Stand on Zanzibar, which is way too f***ing prescient.
